Introduction to the Alexander Technique and Learn you way out of Pain

Cost: $40.00

Duration: One hour

The number of spaces in this workshop is limited to 5

Bookings are essential

Workshops are held on Saturday mornings on a bimonthly basis. Call for more detail.

This introduction covers the basics of the Alexander Technique and how it can be applied to the way we sit, stand and walk.  You will leave with an understanding  of how the Technique can bring ease and balance to these activities. Woven into this introduction are insights into how you can Learn your way out of Pain. You will learn some basic ways in which pain behaves, what is presently best practice for the management of chronic pain, and how and where the Alexander Technique fits within the many options for the prevention and management of pain. What is the role of the Alexander Technique, and how can it help you improve the way you manage your pain?

An Introduction to Constructive Rest  will be included in this workshop. Constructive Rest is a simple practice that begins to build a conscious understanding of the individual patterns of tension present in the body, and teaches the “know-how-to” of letting them go. Practicing Constructive Rest is about undoing chronic tension, and laying a foundation on which to build balance and strength in the body. It can be very beneficial for anyone who is in chronic pain or discomfort, and helps to support a return to performing daily activities and exercise, both recommended strategies for successful pain management.

Alexander Technique Lessons

Individual lessons

Private introductory lesson – One hour

Regular lesson – 45 minutes

The most effective way to learn the Technique is through having individual lessons with an Alexander Technique teacher. The personal attention provided in these lessons allows for clearer understanding of the ideas and practice involved in the Technique and its application.

Course of lessons

ThinkAlexander offers courses of 3, 5 and 10 lessons at a reduced cost to support the individual approach to learning.  All lessons are of 45 minute duration. A special 3 lesson introductory course is available which includes 3 one hour individual lessons. In this course you will learn the basics of use of the self, inhibitory control and directions. Having undergone this course then enables you to join the advanced small group classes.

Advanced small group classes

Think Alexander provides small group classes for students with advanced Alexander Technique experience. These classes involve the practical application of the Technique to daily life with a focus on sharing and discussing observations and experiences, thus enhancing the learning process.
